Wixter Market

Nancy Pochis Bank Art Studio was hired by Wixter Market, a new fish market in Wicker Park, to create two chalkboards as functional statement pieces for their storefront. The first board is a five-by-ten foot world map, surrounded by hand lettering. Studio artists illustrated each fish that Wixter sells next to its source on the map. The phrases around the outside of the map communicate Wixter Market’s commitment to sustainability and freshness.

The second board is a list of all the seafood the store offers, categorized by type. We framed this board in thick rope, in keeping with the market’s nautical theme. A big thanks to studio artist Shayne Taylor for her great illustrations on these boards.

Chicago Public Artwork Goes International

In the summer of 2007, “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet” was launched in Chicago. Nancy Pochis Bank was among an international group of artists selected by the jury to design and create a globe to be displayed in the lakefront exhibit.

Since the start of the "Cool Globes" project, Nancy has created four 5’ globes that have been exhibited across the United States and internationally.

“Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet” is a non-profit organization established to raise awareness of climate change and inspire individuals and community leaders to embrace solutions. The public art exhibit features larger-than-life globes, each designed to depict a solution to global warming.
