Several months after the Marriott Marquis Chicago opened in the South Loop neighborhood, the hotel began work renovating a space on their first floor that would eventually become Showroom Food Hall. Located on Motor Row, Showroom is inspired by Chicago’s automobile era and showcases five different food concepts. It even houses a vintage airstream trailer with a sandwich, salad and soup menu. After working together on chalkboards for their upscale hotel restaurant, the Marriott Marquis reached out to the studio again for work in this exciting new space.
The initial concept the studio produced chalk art for was Revolution Coffee and Sweets. The hotel built a pillar painted with chalkboard paint into the middle of this coffee counter and asked the studio to hand-letter and illustrate messages on all four sides of this pillar. Two of these sides are directional, stating “order here” and “pick up here,” along with various Revolution illustrations. Another side includes Revolution’s logo and their specialty sweets with the final side displayed a large slice of delicious-looking pie.
Due to the success of these boards, the Marriott Marquis asked the studio for 26 additional boards for the The Nomad, the Showroom’s craft bar. 25 of these chalkboards list the beer and wine they have on tap, as well as their canned cocktail offerings. These boards involve their metallic design style and draw orange and white from The Nomad’s logo. In addition to these boards, the studio hand-lettered several more directional signs including a “pick-up here” sign to hang over Winged Warrior, Showroom’s pizza and wings station.
