In 2013, Nancy Pochis Bank Art Studio designed and executed five chalkboards for the Omni Hotel’s new 676 Restaurant & Bar that illustrate the “approachable, organic and sustainable” menu. The hand made feel of the chalk art boards reflects the restaurant’s communal philosophy while the contemporary design compliments the hotel’s Michigan Avenue location and modern atmosphere.
In 2018, Omni contacted Pochis Bank Art Studio to create several more chalkboards for their breakfast buffet area. These seven boards rest on elegant gold stands and tell guests all the different jams, butters, and jams are available for the most important meal of their day. Because these boards are located in a high traffic area, studio artists executed them using a wax pencil. This material gives the appearance of chalk, but it is resistant to water and won’t smudge if touched. Each board includes simple hand-lettering and illustrations of the ingredients in the items listed.
